In 1900, Grand Rapids was called the “Furniture City,” of America. Dozens of factories turned out residential and office furniture for an increasingly urban society. This film examines the immigrant workforce, technological innovations, and some of the early manufacturers. Drawing on interviews with local historians and industry veterans the film provides an overview of an industry that evolved from residential to office furniture manufacturing.
